Al Jazeera’s Jamal ElShayyal Testifies
Journalist Jamal ElShayyal essentially backs up the account of Hassan Ghani but adds other details:
- No doubt that live ammunition was fired before any soldier had boarded the ship
- Up to 3 Israeli soldiers taken captive but then the intensity of the attack from Israeli soldiers increased so the captives were released to prevent further harm to civilians.
- He saw one man “…clearly shot from above…the bullet targeted him at the top of his head”
- Soldiers firing through a hole or flap in the helicopter firing “almost indiscriminately”
- Hands tied behind has back for about 24 hours and was forced to use the bathroom still tied up
- Was asked to sign papers saying he was in Israel illegally
- Was not given access to British Consulate as a British citizen
- Had one meal of frozen bread and potatoes during detention
