Al Jazeera’s Jamal ElShayyal Testifies

Journalist Jamal ElShayyal essentially backs up the account of Hassan Ghani but adds other details:

  • No doubt that live ammunition was fired before any soldier had boarded the ship
  • Up to 3 Israeli soldiers taken captive but then the intensity of the attack from Israeli soldiers increased so the captives were released to prevent further harm to civilians.
  • He saw one man “…clearly shot from above…the bullet targeted him at the top of his head”
  • Soldiers firing through a hole or flap in the helicopter firing “almost indiscriminately”
  • Hands tied behind has back for about 24 hours and was forced to use the bathroom still tied up
  • Was asked to sign papers saying he was in Israel illegally
  • Was not given access to British Consulate as a British citizen
  • Had one meal of frozen bread and potatoes during detention
