Power is power!
It takes a while, but Frum appears to admit that political ‘power’ is more important than law, be that international or national law. I can’t believe Frum actually said this with a straight face. It is a long debate, but well worth watching.

Jerusalem boxing and the BBC We are used to the treatment Palestinians receive in the media. We usually only hear about Palestinians when they are causing trouble for the Israelis and are having to be punished using disproportionate measures as a result. Or we hear that the ‘peace process’ has broken down and a Palestinian “spokesperson” (we are indeed lucky if we are...

Conservative Plagerists for Israel: Exposed The Conservative Friends of Israel (CFoI) has a fearsome reputation in UK politics. Those of us who make a habit of being informed about this group are constantly being given the impression that this is a well funded and organised group not to be taken lightly. Imagine our surprise, then, when something in particular struck us as odd with the current...

Lies and the Liars that tell them - or how the IDF like to use Mash Ups. The trouble with lies is that you have to remember what lies you have told in order to keep up the momentum of a consistent story. Unfortunately, the IDF spokespeople and ‘experts’ appear to have lost track of their lies. On 30 May 2010 the IDF Spokesperson released a video showing the Israeli navy attempting...

15 Minutes of Footage Footage of the attack on the Mavi Marmara that does not come from official Israeli sources is precious. Culturesofresistance.org smuggled out a full 15 minutes. The footage above corroborates earlier video which shows that the attacking Israeli forces had a list (or possibly lists) of people.  At 5m 15s into the above video, a man removes a list from his pocket which he...

Israel complains about expired medicine Having unloaded the aid from the Freedom Flotilla, the IDF spokesperson decided to make public that some (not all, some!) of the aid medicine had expired.  This is a clear attempt to frame the humanitarian effort as either stupid or - worse - an attempt to use expired medicines as a cover for supporting terrorism.   Israel appears to be assuming that the...

Hamas renews offer to end fight if Israel... →
Reuters reports in the link above: Speaking on the Charlie Rose programme on U.S. PBS television, [Hamas leader Khaled] Meshaal directly addressed the issue of armed resistance, which is the basis of its ideology as a national liberation movement.   “Israel started (the conflict) by the occupation so the resistance is a reaction. The action is the occupation, and the reaction from the...

A humble thank you We’ve noticed that we’ve been getting more reblogs on Tumblr and more followers on Twitter recently. Wow! Thanks you guys for the support. We work as a small collective with no budget and we’ve just noticed that over on Twitter we have more followers and are listed more times than Conservative Friends of Israel (@CFoI), an organisation which although it does...

More testimony from on board the Mavi Marmara →
Farooq Burney gives his testimony in the link above. The activists appear to be corroborating each other.   The strong emerging narrative from activists aboard the Mavi Marmara is that some time near the end of the early morning (fajr) prayer (at approximately 4:10), Israeli forces attacked and threw and/or dropped stun grenades and/or tear gas onto the Mavi Marmara from boats alongside and/or...

After seeing Palestinian rocket attacks used to justify pretty much any and all violence from Israel, I finally looked up how many Israeli casualties have resulted from these rocket attacks. Wikipedia said 28 dead from 2001 onward, but it’s Wikipedia. Don’t get me wrong, I love Wikipedia, but the… This guy should get an award!

Setting aside the fact that Rabbi Elyakim Levanon is living on an illegal settlement in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, he, and all other settlers are subject to Israeli civil law. Will Israeli legal authorities put a stop to this religious misogyny? More at YNet

It could be a genuine mistake, not setting the right camera date, we’ve all done it. But then, why not explain that openly and honestly instead of changing the EXIF data on the image which could only ever fuel doubt over the provenance of the image. Israel can silence criticism by releasing video footage of the operation and the consequent survey they made of the ship and cargo.

If not Pirates, then what? We have a lot of time for Yvonne Ridley at this blog. She is a consistently intelligent and a vocal defender of Palestinian rights in particular. However, we think her article on the Freedom Flotilla over at counterpunch.org, whilst well reasoned, cites an international law which does not apply in these circumstances. Having said that, we have found a law which does...

Where is the missing footage? By now the available video footage of the attack by Israeli naval and army forces has been played over and over again, and we are familiar with the claim and counter-claim of each side. The activists - including a member of the Israeli Parliament, Haneen Zuabi -  say that the Israelis were the first to attack and that they defended themselves against live...

News Round Up
Channel 4 News: Expert in maritime security criticises Israeli strategy …the commandos are designed to conduct a counter-terrorism operation, which is combating ideologically-based opponents who are trained to kill people, and are threatening lives. “On the other hand, a constabulary situation is like walking into a riot and trying to control it. “It’s like the difference...
